Table Group Guide

The Mission Stuff

3. Urgency for Today

Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):

This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!

Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)

  • What’s your favorite pizza place?
  • What are you thankful for? What’s stressing you out?
  • Where is God at work in your life?
  • Spend time praising God by taking turns praying as you are led, “thank you God for _______.”

Discussion Guidelines

  1. Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
  2. Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
  3. Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
  4. Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
  5. The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.

Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)

Big Idea: We ask “when?” while Jesus tells us “what” to do as we wait for the end.

Read Mark 13: 1-13, 13:21-37

  • What stands out to you most, and why?
  • How does it change your perspective to view hardships or hostility as an opportunity to share or show your faith?
  • What actions does Jesus want us to do as we wait for his return? (vv. 10, 11, 34, 36)
  • When you hear people talk about the "end times" or global chaos, does your natural reaction lean more toward anxiety or apathy? Why?
  • How have you learned to receive God’s peace in our chaotic world?

Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)

  • If Jesus returned right now, what specific "work" has he assigned to you that he would find you actively doing (or not)?
  • Mission Accepted.” As we wait, God calls us to remain watchful and faithful. How can you do that this week? Here are some ideas:
    • Connect with a friend who needs prayer.
    • Invite someone to church or to your Table group or to share a meal.
    • Commit to investing in someone needing support or encouragement.
  • Close in worship through song. Recommended: Send Me by Bethel Music.
