Table Group Guide

The Mission Stuff

1. Bold Prayers

Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):

This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!

Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)

  • Icebreaker: What routine stops for the summer that you need to pick back up this fall?
  • What are you thankful for? What’s stressing you out?
  • How’s it going with following and fishing?
    • Following = taking steps of faith
    • Fishing = sharing Jesus’ love
  • Worship God together through song. Recommended: I Speak Jesus by Charity Gayle.

Discussion Guidelines

  1. Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
  2. Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
  3. Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
  4. Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
  5. The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.

Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)

Big Idea: Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers. (Mark Batterson)

Read Mark 11:22-25. Read it in two translations if time permits.

  • What is your first reaction to this teaching of Jesus?
  • Based on this passage, what does Jesus say it looks like to have faith in God?
  • How is bold faith different from demanding that God do what we want?
  • Why do you think Jesus connects forgiveness with bold prayer?
  • Share a time when God answered a bold prayer for you or someone you know?
  • Where are you currently facing a “mountain,” struggling to believe, or finding it hard to forgive?

Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)

  • What is one bold prayer you are willing to pray this month?
  • Pair up and pray for your partner’s bold prayer. Make a plan to check in with each other as you continue to pray boldly and trust God for what seems impossible.
