The Kingdom Stuff

Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):

This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!

• Icebreaker: What’s a song that makes you instantly relax?
• What are you thankful for this week? What’s stressing you out?
• Where is God at work in your life?
• Worship God through song. Recommended: The Simple Kingdom by Cody Carnes.

Discussion Guidelines

1. Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs. 
2. Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page) 
3. Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice. 
4. Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK. 
5. The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach. 

Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting) 

Read Mark 9:30-37. Read it in two translations if time permits.

• What part of this scripture makes the biggest impression on you?
• How does our culture define greatness? How is Jesus’ definition different?
• Why do you think Jesus used a child to illustrate humility?
• What does it practically look like to be "last of all" in your workplace, family, or community? Who is
  someone you know that lives like that?
• We naturally pursue what we want, but following Jesus means we put others' needs before our
  wants. Share a time when that created a conflict. What happened?

Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)

• What’s a simple step you can take this week to let go of your agenda and serve others?
• How is God prompting you to serve in or outside the church?
• Pray for the Empty Chair. Place hands on an empty chair in the circle and ask God to fill
  it with someone who needs to be here next week. Plan a low-key hangout to make for an easy
  invitation!
