Table Group Guide
The Jesus Stuff
7. Do It Afraid
Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):
This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!
Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)
- Icebreaker: What’s a summer activity that makes you nostalgic?
- What are you thankful for? What’s stressing you out?
- How has God been at work in your life?
- Spend time worshiping through song. Recommended: Been So Good by Elevation Worship.
Discussion Guidelines
- Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
- Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
- Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
- Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
- The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.
Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)
Pause to pray before reading Mark 5:21-43
- Retell the story in your own words (this helps us internalize the passage).
- What stands out to you?
- What do you learn about God from this passage?
- What does this passage teach us about ourselves?
- Where do you need to move beyond fear to take a step of faith?
Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)
- Based on this discussion, where do you need to change?
- What’s a simple way you can live out this passage in the next few days? (Everyone creates an “I will” statement.)
- Who is someone in your life that would benefit from this story? Pray for them now.
- Pray for one another.
