Table Group Guide
The Jesus Stuff
6. Undeniable Power
Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):
This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!
Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)
- Icebreaker: When traveling, do you overpack or travel light?
- High/Low/Buffalo. Briefly share something about your week that was good, bad, or weird.
- Where do you see God at work in your life?
- Begin with prayer by taking turns completing the sentence “thank you God for ______.”
Discussion Guidelines
- Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
- Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
- Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
- Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
- The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.
Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)
Big Idea: Jesus will step into places we avoid to reach people we’ve written off.
Have someone pray before reading Mark 5:1-18
- What surprises you most about this passage?
- Why do you think Jesus went to such a dark place? What does that tell us about God?
- The people just witnessed an incredible miracle, but they also saw their financial security jump off a cliff! What barriers prevent you from receiving what Jesus can do for you?
- Have you ever experienced or witnessed a time when a positive transformation in someone’s life made the people around them uncomfortable or hostile?
- In 3 minutes or less, share the before/after of how Jesus has reclaimed an area of darkness in your life (this is a great way to share part of our spiritual story with others).
Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)
- Jesus wants to reclaim the areas of darkness in our lives and others.
- What area of darkness do you need reclaimed in your life?
- Who do you know that is trapped in an area of spiritual darkness?
- How is God prompting you to respond?
- Take a moment to pray now for those who have shared and the next steps that God is prompting each of us to take.
