Table Group Guide

The Jesus Stuff

5. Shine Your Light

Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):

This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!

Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)

  • Icebreaker: When traveling, do you overpack or travel light?
  • What are you thankful for? What’s stressing you out?
  • Hi Neighbor is our summer initiative to connect with the people God is calling us to invest in. How’s that going? Share any challenges.
  • Spend time in worship through song. Recommended: Build My Life by Pat Barrett.

Discussion Guidelines

  1. Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
  2. Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
  3. Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
  4. Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
  5. The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.

Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)

Big Idea: What God puts in you grows when you release it

Read Mark 4:21-29

  • What stands out to you?
  • The first parable talks about our part (let your light shine), whereas the second talks about God’s part (growing the seed). Why are both essential in discipleship?
  • What’s the problem with the idea of faith being “private?”
  • Which part of faith is harder for you – having a spiritual conversation, or trusting God with the results? Share why.
  • What does a visible faith look like in your workplace, neighborhood, or family?

Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)

  • What can you do this week to let your light shine? Make an “I will” statement.
  • What areas of darkness do you see around you? Take time to pray over these.
  • Find conversation starters and other tools at table.org/hi.
