Table Group Guide
The Jesus Stuff
3. Party Time
Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):
This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!
Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)
- Icebreaker: Your perfect ice cream sundae.
- Briefly share a high and/or low from your week.
- How's it going with following and fishing?
- Following = taking steps of faith
- Fishing = sharing Jesus' love
- How can we pray for you? Take turns sharing needs and praying for them. For time, keep sharing needs and prayers limited to a few sentences.
Discussion Guidelines
- Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
- Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
- Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
- Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
- The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.
Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)
Invite someone to pray before reading Mark 2:13-17
- What caught your attention in this passage?
- Jesus invited a disreputable person into his inner circle. What do you find significant about that?
- When are you tempted to distance yourself from certain people or places?
- Share a time when an invitation made a difference to you.
- Levi used his house and a meal to connect people to Jesus. What do you already have—a dinner table, a backyard, a hobby—that could serve as a bridge?
Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)
- This summer, we are challenging ourselves to connect with others through fun, low-key gatherings.
- Who is someone you know casually that you’d like to connect with more?
- Take time to pray for each of these names.
- Bless 5 Prayer is a way to pray for 5 people for 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Let’s check in next week on how that’s going!
