Table Group Guide

On the Way

2. On the Way to Purpose

Table purpose statement (Can be shared at the start or before the Discovery section):

This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. That means one day, some of you will lead a group like this!

Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)

  • Who is your favorite superhero?
  • What are you thankful for? What’s stressing you out?
  • What has God been speaking to you? How have you responded?
  • Worship God through song, then have someone pray and ask God to open our hearts to hear His voice through the scriptures. Recommended: Good Plans by Red Rocks Worship.

Discussion Guidelines

1.    Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.

2.    Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)

3.    Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.

4.    Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.

5.    The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.

Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)

Big idea: God doesn’t give us blueprints; He gives us steps that uncover His purposes.

Read Acts 9:1-20

  • Have someone reshare this story in their own words. Then read it again. (This process helps us notice details and be immersed in the story)
  • What detail of this story stands out to you?
  • Both Saul and Ananias didn’t have the full picture of where God was leading them.
    • Why do you think God chooses to work this way?
    • What do you learn from their obedience?
  • Share a time where you didn’t have the full picture, but you took steps based on what God was prompting. How did that build your faith?
  • God had a purpose for Saul, but God intervened to get him on the right track. What distractions or barriers derail you from pursuing God’s purposes?

Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)

  • What’s an area of life where you don’t have the full picture, but you sense God prompting you to take a step?
  • Encounter Retreat is coming March 6-7. Have a member of your group who has attended share about their experience, and encourage others to go. Table.org/Encounter

Pray for the Empty Chair. The week of February 22 will begin a 6-week Spiritual Growth Series, In the Pits, journeying through the life of Joseph. Pray over an empty chair that God would use us to invite someone who needs to be here for that series!
