Table Group Guide

Made for More

4. If I Perish

Awakening Conference: November 1-3
5 PM Food Trucks | 6 PM Workshops | 7 PM Main Session

There’s nothing quite like the Awakening Conference. This is our yearly time to gather as one church to pursue God’s heart together, encounter healing and transformation through the Holy Spirit, and leave with purpose. Highly recommend attending as a group!

Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):

This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!

Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)

  • What’s a task that others find easy but you find cumbersome?
  • High/Low/Buffalo. Share something from your week that was good, bad, or weird.
  • What have you been hearing from God (in scripture, prayer, conversation, etc.)?
  • Worship God through song. Recommended: King of Kings by Hillsong Worship.

Discussion Guidelines

  1. Be deep but brief. Give everyone an opportunity to share.
  2. Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page.)
  3. Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
  4. Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
  5. The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.

Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)

Scripture Context: Queen Esther doesn’t control much – the king does. But when she finds out the Jewish people of which she is a part is on the brink of destruction, she is forced to choose between self-preservation or risking it all to save her people.

Big Idea: God’s purpose requires surrender and trust.

Read Esther 4:15-17

  • What stands out to you about Esther’s reply?
  • When crisis hits, Esther leans on community and God’s power (prayer and fasting). When a situation is beyond your control, what makes it hard for you to trust in God like that?
  • What do you tend to grasp for when life feels uncertain?
  • Esther said, “If I perish, I perish.” Share a time when you trusted God when you couldn’t control the outcome.
  • Why do you think surrender is so difficult?

Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)

  • Where might God be asking you to step outside your comfort zone? What’s holding you back?
  • In light of our discussion, what are you taking with you? What are you leaving behind?
  • Pray for the Empty Chair. Place an empty chair in the circle and ask God to use us to fill it with someone that needs to be here next week.
