Table Group Guide
Made for More
3. For Such a Time as This
Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):
This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!
Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)
- What’s a snack you can’t say “no” to?
- What are you thankful for? What’s stressing you out?
- How’s it going with following and fishing?
Following= taking steps of faith
Fishing= sharing Jesus’ love with others - Spend time in prayer taking turns completing the phrase “Thank you God for _____.”
Discussion Guidelines
- Be deep but brief. Give everyone an opportunity to share.
- Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
- Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
- Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
- The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.
Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)
Scripture Context: Check out the Bible Project Recap of the book of Esther to get an overview. If you can’t watch it in your group, send the link for everyone to watch on their own!
Big Idea: God’s purpose for your life is bigger than just you.
Read Esther 4:1-14
- What stands out to you in this portion of the story?
- When Mordecai learns about Haman’s plans, he grieves publicly and seeks help. What does his response teach you?
- Esther was hesitant to approach the king out of fear for her life. When are you tempted to protect your comfort rather than concern yourself with others?
- Who has God placed in your life that helps you see your blind spots?
- Mordecai helps Esther see her unique position to meet the moment. What opportunity do you see God want to use those in our group? Speak out what you see in one another.
Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)
- Where might God be asking you to step outside your comfort zone? What fear or uncertainty is keeping you from responding?
- What is one faithful step you can take this week? Make an “I will” statement.
- Pray for each other for clarity, wisdom and the courage to step out in obedience to take hold of your calling.
