Table Group Guide
Made for More
2. Your Place Has Purpose
Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):
This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!
Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)
- What’s something you said you would never do?
- High/ Low/ Buffalo. Briefly share a part of your week that was good, bad, or weird.
- Encounter is October 23-24. Have one or two people share their story of attending Encounter and the impact it made, or use the provided link and watch the video testimonial together. Registration closes this week! table.org/encounter
- How has God been at work in your life? After sharing, have someone pray, thanking God for His care and guidance, and inviting the Spirit to open our hearts to scripture.
Discussion Guidelines
- Be deep but brief. Give everyone an opportunity to share.
- Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
- Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
- Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
- The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.
Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)
Context: Esther and Mordecai were part of the Jewish people living in exile under Persian rule, when a series of events led to Esther becoming queen. Haman’s ancestors were ancient enemies of the Israelites.
Read Esther 2:19-3:15 (Do your best with all the names!)
- Who understands what’s happening? Please summarize what’s going on for the rest of us!
- While it looks bleak for the Israelites, how do you see God’s hand at work?
- Mordecai continuously chooses the right thing over the easy thing. (2:22; 3:2) Where do you struggle to stand firm, especially when you have something to lose?
- Share a time when you went through a painful hardship, but God used it for His glory and to prepare you for His purposes and/or your benefit.
- How would you answer the question, “Why am I here?”
Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)
- How can you be faithful where God has placed you?
- Make an “I will” statement. Pray for each other to have God’s wisdom and clarity for next steps.
