2. Who Am I?

Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):

This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!

Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)

  • Who is someone you aspired to be when you were growing up?
  • What are you thankful for? What’s stressing you out?
  • Where is God at work in your life?
  • Praise God through song. Recommended: Jesus We Love You by Paul McClure.

Discussion Guidelines

  1. Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
  2. Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
  3. Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
  4. Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
  5. The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.

Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)

Big Idea: Jesus doesn’t just improve your identity; He gives you a new one.

Invite someone to pray before reading Colossians 3:1-17

  • What did the Holy Spirit highlight to you in this passage?
  • What does verse 10 tell us about the connection between knowing Jesus and becoming like Jesus? Why is that significant?
  • Our culture often tells us to “look within” to discover who we really are. How is Paul’s approach different? What does that look like in practice?
  • What’s one "old garment" you are still wearing?
  • Who is someone in your life who makes you want to become more like Jesus?

Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)

  • What’s your takeaway from our discussion?
  • What’s a step you’re considering this fall to help you become more like Jesus? (You can use the Connect Card to Take a Step!)
  • Pray for the Empty Chair. Place an empty chair in the circle and pray for God to use one of us to fill it with someone who needs to be here next week!
