Table Group Guide
Get Real
3. Real Growth
Table purpose statement (Share at the start or before the Discovery section):
This group exists for the purpose of discipleship. A disciple is someone who loves and obeys Jesus. (John 14:15) That means our focus is hearing from God and taking steps of faith. Our goal is to multiply another healthy Table. One day, some of you will lead a group like this!
Table Talk (⅓ of meeting)
- Icebreaker: Are you a night owl or an early bird?
- Briefly share a high and/or low from your week.
- How has God been speaking to you (through Scripture, prayer, a conversation, etc)?
- Worship God through song. Recommended: Make Room by Community Music.
Discussion Guidelines
- Everyone shares in sentences, not paragraphs.
- Focus only on what this passage is saying. (This keeps everyone on the same page)
- Share from your perspective – we won’t argue or give advice.
- Give everyone time to respond. Silence is OK.
- The facilitator will facilitate discussion, not teach.
Discover what God is saying to you. (⅓ of meeting)
Big idea: Disciples do whatever Jesus says.
Read Luke 5:1-11
- Have someone retell this passage in their own words.
- What is the main point of this story to you?
- Reread verse 5. What do we learn from Peter’s response about how to grow in faith?
- Share a time when you did what Jesus asked, even when it didn’t make sense. How did that go?
- Jesus connected Simon’s ordinary work as a fisherman with God’s purpose for him. What part of your life that seems ordinary do you want God to use for His purposes?
Go do it. (⅓ of meeting)
- Connect with God in silence, asking the question: “What is it that You are calling me to lay down so I can follow You?”
- If you are able, share about what came up for you. After sharing, have one person pray:
- That we would lay these things down in order to follow God.
- That God would use us to help others step into their purpose.
