The next session of First Place for Health begins in January at The Table! Do you want to make lasting changes in your life? Changes that others will notice and that will change you from the inside out? All of us want to be stronger and more physically fit, but if we have any experience with diet and health programs, we know changes that stick over the months and years have to begin with character transformation.
In this session, the study will be about David. David, the great King of Israel, is mentioned more than any other person in the Hebrew Bible and second only to Jesus in the whole Bible. Nearly half of the book of Psalms was written by him. He was called “a man after God’s own heart.” He had the heart of a king, and his heart was devoted to the great King of all. What does it mean to be a person who is fit for a King? If we look at David’s life, it is far from perfect. Although he was often faithful to God, he had some serious sins, adultery and murder among them. Today a leader like David would likely be canceled, cast aside for his mistakes, and forgotten. But God chose him to be a great king, because David had a heart that craved God and was humble enough to repent and ask for forgiveness.
How can we become people who are fit for a kingly life? And how does that process help us reach our fitness goals by putting God first in all things? This Bible study, FIT FOR A KING, explores the life of David and makes connections between his desire to follow God and our own desires to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength as we journey toward wellness.
